jungle

Bird-of-Paradise

I've gotten out of the habit of participating in Illustration Friday lately, but this older one (a gift to my mother) seems to fit the bill.

Beautiful... so glad you took the time to share it with us. Enjoyed the contrast of light/dark tones. Your mother must be extremely pleased and proud of it.

Fabulous! Reminds me more of your manipulated photos than your current paintings.

This has the same jewel-like colors I see in your more recent work, but it's looser. It almost looks like it's been painted on silk! Absolutely gorgeous:>

WOW! At first I though this was one of your photos that you do your thing to make them look special and then I realized it is a painting, you have really blurred the boundaries here with your art vs photo thang you got going on! Totally cool and great colours!!!

Carla is right the same jewel colors here as in your more recent work. and because I love botanicals and your work this one really appeals to me. I am in awe at how well you work the complimentry colors.

I thought it was a slightly altered photo as well. Dang! Beautiful - I love that blue peaking through in the background as well!

The dark blue areas especially balance the painting out and draw the eye in.

I love your paintings, Andrea. Lovely rich colours as usual - reminds me of Paul Gaugain. Hope to see some of your paintings in the Tate, one day.

You have certainly done a beautiful job there. Do you know that the 'proper' name is Strelitzia? And do you know that the plant is indigenous to S Africa?

At home in Cape Town somewhere, the kids have a book that I bought them when they were very young which is a sort of folk tale about the flower and its connection with birds. It's a really lovely story that I'm sure you'd appreciate. I may ask them if they still have it so that I can refresh my mind about what the story was all about to tell you.

I can’t believe I haven’t said anything yet – this is what happens when one has attention span of a fruit fly (me). Lovely painting. Thank you for sharing.
On the other hand – did you ever think of “revisiting” some of the older paintings and reincorporating their imagery into the style you do now? Men, I would love to see a bird of paradise amidst totems and bones… just me.

And thank you for visiting!!! I always appreciate your comments!

Love it! For some strange reason this seems very different for some of your other paintings. Color maybe?
