illustration friday: under the sea
This theme fits in nicely with the paintings I did last summer called Under the Surface. This small one, 12" x 12", is one of my favourites and is being sent to Erie, PA, with five others today. (Apologies to anyone who's already seen this painting.)

Wow, Andrea, this is so funky and cool! I love the stained glass looking shapes to the right, and the fish are gorgeous. Nice job with composition and cropping!
I love the detail in this one and also how it almost looks like stained glass. Beautiful Mrs. Pratt!

beautiful!
Hey, I'm visiting for the first time... I love your art. Very beautiful.
love this
i really like your use of colors
they always seems contrary to the subject matter, which i like since this asks me, in a very simple way, to reevaluate my own relationship to the objects and the environment in which they might be found. much like matisse. especially in your use of primary colors
How wonderful! I love your technique and the colors. So imaginative.
AWWWW! Fishes! Sooo Nice! :)

Andrea I can hardly wait to see this in person.
I have been absent lately trying to get things done.
I miss the IF group and all the bloggers. I will let everyone know when the paintings arive in Erie
then people on the east coast can pay a visit to see your paintings and see our wonderful lake front.
Beautiful painting!!!!
I can see why this would be one of your favorites...it has a perfect balance of color, shape and pattern. I could sit and look at this all day! I love the surface of the fish...it looks shiny and slick, but retains the feeling of scales. I imagine them swimming past some underwater mountain or reef...it's very abstract, but completely suggestive - perfect with the attention given to the details on the fish.
very beautiful andrea! i like your fish and fish bones so very much!
lucky PA to get these!
really wonderful! I love the colors combination. Me encanta!
Gourgeuous colours and great work with the fish, they look so vivid.
This is so beautifu Andrea! the fish are perfection!!!
Luv the fish! Great colors as always.
Sorry to spook you over at my place.
It was a day SPA in a mud bath!
Oh! I love it.

Hi, first time checking out your blog and it's lovely! Beautiful painting, I especially like the contrast between the detail on the fish and the loose background. Also a big fan of the square canvas!

Wow Andrea this is great !!! :) I as well like your new house painting in your small art section, I see it is sold !
Gotta love the colors in the fist...as well as the flat colors in the areas to the right. Truly wonderful.
"in the fist?" "in the fist?" How 'bout in the 'fish?' Sorry, too much rum at a S'prise b'day party this afternoon.
This is a great piece, love the texture and boldness.
really love the background
Your fish are wonderful. My painting is still wet and un-fin-ished ;-)
I love the way the pattern in the background pick up the pattern in those gorgeous fish on a larger scale*!
*pun not intended but appropo don't you think?
have seen it and still love it.
I know i have said it a gazillion times that your art is great. It seems like to create your art it would take forever because it looks so good. I am so impatient! How long does it usually take to finish a painting like this? Or do you do it in phases?
Calvin: This one was done in two phases and came off the brush pretty easily. Sometiems I struggle. It probably took about 4-5 hours from design through completion.
Oooh-- very nice indeed! Love the color and arrangement.(Love the eaglecam, too!)

Beautiful! I love painting fish and reptiles, building up the color and light on the scales. Great combo of real and abstract here.
