song

This is craziness. It's only 10 a.m. here at GMT-8 and there are already 95 postings at Illustration Friday! This weekly meme has become a monster. I hope it doesn't collapse under its own weight. Fortunately I have something in the archives to post today. My first thought was 'songbird', but of course my songbirds are missing a few key components -- like flesh. I got the title (The Caged Bird Sings) from the poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.

Fascinating - I love the chain mail effect of bird feet in the back drop. But those birds do look like they've worn themselves out singing!

Hi Andrea! I felt the same way, at 9:00 when I opened my laptop 93 submissions!!! Love this painting, the descending colourful birds in the backgound, the bird feet pattern and the faces are just amazing! I can see why someone bought this!

Skeletal songs are my favourite, they are always stripped to the bone, but yet still in harmony.

Such rich patterns and luminous colors, Andrea. The repetition of the different patterns - the birds, their footprints - creates a rhythm section for the songs that transcend time, passed down through the species. I love too that you tied this to Angelou's poem:>

Yes, IF is out of control huge. I think by the time I post something, there will be several hundred up!

I just have to say that what Carla said, "their footprints - creates a rhythm section" is BANG ON. She really knows how to look at stuff doesn't she?

I can see the music here the same way you look at my 'song'! BUT there is nature in yours which creates a strong primeval beat in my stomach :) Love it!

It is haunting and surreal. The artwork tells a story. the kind of painting you could look at for hours and imagine this place, this strange world. Extraordinary

I love the references to the 'rhythm section' of the birdy feet pattern. I never thought of that. That's why we have each other, isn't it? To point out what we don't know yet about our own work! I loved painting this series, but had to move onto something that would be more moolah-friendly. *sigh* Thabnks for the BOB congrats -- the button fir the top three doesn't say I came second, but I'm pleased as punch with that.

First, your painting this week is marvelous and I love it. Everyone knows that the skin isn't good for you anyways...don't they? :D

Illustration Friday? Yeah, it's gotten so large that I simply can't wade in there anymore to look at the work. When it was only 100 or so illustrations it was manageble on a Saturday Morning to skip thru. With 400, 500 or 600 entries I don't have the stamina for that anymore. So now, I simply post and stumble about there infrequently. I'm sure those who've come to know me wonder why I'm not commenting much these days.

Really like the staccato bird feet screen. And then there are those crazy bird note dancers. And the great colors and textures in the foreground fleshless birds. Great illustration.
