small sketches

solemn tree
autumn lakeside
tree view
woods edge
More trees! I did these mini sketches (4" x 4") yesterday so I could send them to Effusion Gallery, who have been doing a nice job of selling my small framed drawings since they opened six weeks ago. It's always interesting to me to see how others' opinions/perceptions differ from my own. I have both a definite favourite and 'unfavourite' amongst these and would love to hear if any of these appeal more than the others and why. It will help me decide which ones to send.

I would rank them 1,3,4,2 based on color appeal. But as usual, they are all still wonderful.

Nice work. 1,3,4,2. #1 jumped out at me right away because of it's simplicity and I'm always attracted to seeing the patterns you make within the shapes (and I love earthtones). But I like #3 almost as much. They're all lovely, did you enjoy doing these as much as the celtic ones or less?

Jan: Thanks -- I think #1 is growing on me now. I wasn't sure at first.

Andie:# 4 was my last one and #1 my second-to-last. Was I getting better maybe?

Cynthia: Thanks!

Angie: #3 is my favourite, too. I did it first.

Ellen: I like doing the Celtic ones better -- but they take LOT longer (they're bigger). These were quickies and I was trying to create that spontaneous feel. A couple of them didn't scan very well. I want to try scanning them again.

Michelle: Hmmm -- the first two I did -- in that order, too.

Caroline: Thanks.

I like #4 and #3. Not keen on #1. Much prefer the Celtics and those black/silver ones(like the ones on my wall!)
But don't be deterred;if Effusions can flog 'em you can do 'em!

Hi there, you don't know me, but you know my brother Aaron Paquette. I've been watching your blog for a while now.
My faves in order are 4, 1, 3, 2. I prefer "quiet" paintings at the moment. I love your work.

it's 1 and 3 for me. it's because i like the colors best. from the responses you've received, you might as well send ALL of them! which actually makes sense, since you are a fine artist!!!

Dinah: I love that you and Caroline know me well enough now to give me the 'straight goods'. Thanks.

Elaine: Thanks -- mine, too.

Tavin/Sparrow: Thanks for commenting! I love Aaron's work.

KJ: You're so right ~ the responses are all over the map. Your two favourites are, in the end, the two I like best, too.

I like them all too. Would make a nice set; they are different enough. If I had to pick one or two, I like 3 best because of the perspective. I like 4 because of the contrast to 3. I like 2 next because of the color, and 4 because of the form and nakedness, which I enjoy in the winter. Only then can one see the true imperfect skeleton. I agree, definitely send them all.

For me it's 3,4,2,1. I would love any of them though, they're beautiful, and I see some japanese mood in them, and also arts and crafts...fantastic!

Molly: That's why we're friends: we think alike. That's the exact order I'd choose, too (assuming you meant #1 for the first #4?).

Ann: Ooo -- I love that. I love it when people see things I don't but when they point it out -- I can!

Peter: Thanks, P. I guess I should frame them now.

I know I'm late, Andrea, but the colour always gets me...my fave is definitely No. 2, with that orange, which I take to be autumn...

I think my least favourite would be No. 4, the barren one with the least colour...

All of these look nice. What a great cluster on someone's wall these would make. Usually, my favorite artwork is NOT the favorite of others.
