autumn reed

Here's another of the Celtic tree calendar drawings. This one is the reed (Ngetal) and its place in the calendar year is October 28 - November 24. The reed represents the mysteries of death. The associated heavenly body is Pluto and the animal is the white hound, which represents the dogs that guard the lunar mysteries.

I could kick myself because there are runes associated with each of these months (thanks, Caroline) but I didn't discover them until after I'd done the first two drawings, so haven't figured out how to incorporate them. If I was painting in acrylic I'd just find a good spot to paint them in, but it's not so easy with these drawings. I'm still thinkiing about it.

Great drawing!

For the runes, you'll just have to do another series. :)

You don't want to 'rune' it...I think that it's great and I love how you explain the characters.

One of my favorite phrases from Wall Street was Gord Gecko talkin' about 'pissin in the tall grass with the big dogs'...love that.

With that inmind we recently purchased tall grass with beautiful purple heads for our backyard..I would have never imagined that someday I would be spending $8 on something that I could dig up in a ditch!

It is a great series. White hounds guarding the lunar mysteries, I like that imagery.

Now that your well immersed into this series, did you celebrate summer solstice this week? It's a big deal with us Estonians, we like to make ridiculously huge bonfires and get drunk on beer and vodka for a week. But since I'm not in Estonia, I missed the festivities (:

Those white hounds look an awful lot like greyhounds. This one has a mysterious feel to it.

Ooh! LOVE this one.

And Ellen should have gone ahead and celebrated anyway.I'm nowhere near my Viking homelands, but I managed to consume more wine than usual.Well, I figured I'd celebrate winter solstice here and give the northerners a nod!

Angela: There's an idea. I was thinking of somehow making it part of the signature.

Donn: painting subtitle: Wall Street. And I saw 'ornamental grasses' in a garden centre recently and thought the same thing!

Hayden: Phew.

Ellen: Next year invite me! I just looked at the sky at 10:00 pm and remarekd on how it still wasn't dark yet.

Citizen: I thought so, too, not that it was my intention! :)

Dinah: Taste is funny. My favourite is still the first. Maybe I'm having trouble feeling like the others measure up after that one. Another tomorrow I hope.
