illustration friday: the blues

Fly-by-night
8" x 8" x 1.5"
For the second week in a row the Illustration Friday topic has fit neatly into a small, just-completed painting. I guess 'the greens and the blues' might be a better title. Anyway, this one's all about flying things.

Somehow I get a feeling of metamorphosis/evolution from this piece. The dragonfly is my favourite element of this piece.

This has a lot of (for me!) deeper imagery...

Fly By Night works perfectly, I think because of the duality of the meaning of the phrase. I like cryptic puzzles in art. And dragonflies are my favorite insects. More so than butterflies, because butterflies are, like Angelina Jolie, too obvious.

Pretty! (Yes - "Fly by Night" is cool!). Dragonflies are the state insect for Washington. :-) They circle about in my backyard, eating smaller bugs, all summer long.

"Energy" is not what is keeping me in my studio right now. It is Deadlines of Doom.... Not really the funnest motivation for working...

I especially like the light green area, & the way it casually curves at the edges, & the multi toned silver bird.

I like this even though insects scare me! Actually, I love the colour balance.
