I'm really responding to your post a couple down, but since I'm actually the first person here, thought I'd take the opportunity.
I plan on painting some landscapes this summer, it's something I enjoy. But, that being said, it would be difficult if that was what was driving my work. I'm also easily seduced by shiny things and like to do something else when it suits me.
If I can make it work online, I'll be happy. I actually like being alone in my studio and get a little cranky when intruded upon.
As to searching for some kind of personal direction, do what feels good to you, with an eye on your goals. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.
You are so getting the digital coloring thing down to a science! Way to go these birds look great. I also want to respond to the landscape painting topic from a couple of posts down...I don't paint landscpaes either...well sometimes but not often...and you are so right they do sell...but I have no interest in doing something that has been done a sqabillion times over. I love to look at them...don't get me wrong...it's just I don't want to paint for the masses...I want to create...Other Stuff! I have been advised a bunch of times too to narrow my focus....I just don't want too! I like trying and learning new stuff...I am addicted to playing around. I try to keep in mind my goals (to become the best artist I can be) and still have fun in the studio...I think my work shows my style no matter what I do or don't do...and that's just right for me. I say do what makes you happy, try to have a consistancy in your personal flair...and have faith that style of working in whatever medium will show through. I love your style! I can always tell your work from anothers...and if I saw your work as a landscape in some place...I would know it was yours because of the way you use your mediums...which is very...you! Anyway, sorry to go on...but it struck a nerve, you know? Mate Man and I have been talking about this all week!
Cynthia: I want to get to the point where I do a landscape because I WANT to do it (like you will this summer), not because I'm commissioned or requested to do it. It'll happen again one of these days.
Catnapping: Thanks. Birds are a new thing for me. Must be why I'm doing them over and over again.
Caroline: You are certainly not the first to tell me this. Win a few, lose a few.
HMBT: Written like someone who's been down the same path(s) as me many times! Sometimes it's hard to shake one's style -- even if we want to, isn't it? Yours is very distinctive.
You are on a roll, but you always were, in my esteem. Isn't the creative act enchanting when we can watch ourselves growing in what we're doing? You do such awe-inspiring work, Andrea. Why don't you mount a show in the Comox Valley? You should come to the Filberg Festival the first week of August. Ian
Hi Ian. Thanks so much. Your vote of confidence means more than I can say right now. As for the Filberg, a dear, old friend lives in Courtenay and has mentioned it more than once. I was thinking "OK -- this year" until a major event that I am heavily involved in (Junior Australian Football Nationals of all things) was scheduled to take place over the August long weekend. Next year!
I'm loving the birds, one cuz I'm a bird nut and two they are great surface design. Although I am a lover of letters I think you can leave out the words. I can see these on mugs, dinnerware, ext. Also fabric.
Barbara: They're going in a less cartoony direction, aren't they? I meant to make them cartoony but this started happening unconsciously. What can that mean I wonder?
Toni: Another one! OK, when these are done, no more text -- I promise!

these are so beautiful. you've captured the magic i find in them.
thank you for this post.
Looks like a good design for a greetings card - that is if there was anyone to send the message "seed eater" too!
Seriously I love the birds but am not so keen on the letters.

You're definitely on a roll - these birds get better and better.
